The memory could not be "read" ...

Windows keeps killing apps with this message:

The instruction at '...' referenced memory at '...'.
The memory could not be read.
Click OK to terminate the program.

After reading the MS KB article, I realised this is not such a strange message after all.
It's actually a very familiar old friend
